Jeep tour to the Pole of Cold

imgThe Pole of Cold is located at the settlement Tomtor in Oymyakon uluss (district) of Yakutia. The lowest temperature of air in the populated area of our planet -71,2°С (-96°F) is fixed there. You will pass about 1100 km along the Kolymsky Tract through virgin Siberian taiga in real winter with real frost. Magnificent landscapes with great mountains, fast non-frozen rivers and vast frozen bogs are for you to see during the journey.

The route goes mostly by a frozen gravel road. Average temperature is  -30 °C, sometimes  blizzards and snowstorms are not unlikely. UAZ jeeps are especially adapted to the extreme environment. Tourists with driving licenses may drive themselves. An experienced guide-driver is in every jeep. The group is provided with a 6WD service vehicle, satellite communication and navigation equipment.

Itinerary:

Day 1. Arrival in Yakutsk. Transfer to a hotel. Accommodation. Excursions to Diamond Museum and Mammoth Museum. Preparations to the trip. Acquaintance with UAZ jeeps. Overnight in the hotel.
Day 2. Drive (216 km): Yakutsk –Churapcha. Overnight at the Physical Training Institute.
Day 3. Drive (284 km): Churapcha - Ytyk-Kuel – Khandyga - Tioply Kluch (Warm Spring). Overnight at a local school.
Day 4. Drive (406 km): Tioply Kluch - Tomtor. Homestay. Banya.
Day 5. Drive to Oymyakon. Arrival at Pole of Cold Monument. Museum of Local Lore. Competition of tourists in driving. Investiture of certificates “Member of the Trip to the Pole of Cold”. Homestay in Tomtor.
Day 6. Flight from Tomtor to Yakutsk (11:00). Arrival in Yakutsk (12:00). Accommodation in a hotel. Farewell dinner.
Day 7. Transfer to airport. Departure from Yakutsk.
